Filmed in Georgia: "The Odd Life of Timothy Green"

This week, Disney released "The Odd Life of Timothy Green" featuring Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton. Filmed mostly in Newnan and Decatur, the movie is written and directed by Peter Hedges, the writer behind "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," "Pieces of April," and "Dan in Real Life." The film features a childless couple struggling with infertility when one day a child, Timothy Green, appears on their doorstep. The cast also includes Rosemarie DeWitt, Dianne Wiest, Ron Livingston, and rapper Common.

I haven't had a chance to see this movie yet, but I have heard nothing but great things about this new classic from the Disney studio.

Filmed in Georgia: "Firelight"

April has been a huge month for Georgia filmed movies both on the big screen and small. The last few weeks we've seen great success at the box office for "Think Like a Man," "The Three Stooges," and "American Reunion." Now, Hallmark's Hall of Fame movie "Firelight" is coming to a TV near you. Last weekend, "Firelight" premiered on ABC and this weekend it will be airing on the Hallmark Channel.

Based on a true story, "Firelight" is about a counselor at a women's correctional center who helps the women gain self-respect by helping others. The counselor is played by Cuba Gooding, Jr.. Gooding's character encourages the women to join an elite team that fights forest fires and assists civilian victims of natural disasters. The movie also stars Q'orianka Kilcher, Dewanda Wise, and Rebecca Rivera.  The movie was filmed last fall in and around the metro Atlanta area.

Filmed in Georgia: "The Three Stooges"

I started this blog in May 2010 and one of my first posts was about the Farrelly brothers take on "The Three Stooges." Today, the film opens nationwide and a whole new generation will learn about the slapstick comedy that made Larry, Curly, and Moe household names. "The Three Stooges" of 2012 stars Sean Hayes as Larry, Will Sasso as Curly, and Chris Diamantopoulos as Moe. Jane Lynch, Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Hudson, and Larry David also star in the movie.

The production was filmed around the metro Atlanta area including Cartersville, Stone Mountain, a Buckhead mansion, and in midtown. As a fan of Sean Hayes and the original Three Stooges, I'm very excited to see how the Farrelly brothers have updated these iconic characters for today's audiences.

Six Degrees of Separation

Many, many years ago there was a very popular "Six Degrees of Separation" game with Kevin Bacon. Currently, the producers are looking for featured roles for scenes filming in Atlanta next week. They are looking for "Judge" type older gentleman with grey hair and two male lawyer-types who are clean cut, with great suits. For the lawyer types, they are looking for men in their 30s to 50s.

Alan Alda, Lauren Ambrose, Linda Lavin, and Justin Theroux also star in this romantic comedy about a couple who moves from Manhattan to a rural commune where free love rules.

Filmed in Georgia: "Joyful Noise"

While Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah seem to be an unlikely musical pairing, these two music legends turned actresses are sharing the big screen in "Joyful Noise." The movie hits theaters this weekend and was filmed around the Atlanta area in 2011. "Joyful Noise" is about a small town choir preparing for a national choir competition. Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah play battling choir directors intent on winning. "Joyful Noise" is Dolly Parton's first film in almost 20 years. I have feeling this upbeat (and musical) movie will be a big hit at the box office.
